So here’s the big news, brought to us by someone higher up in the magazine supply chain: restarted manga will be published in both Kirara magazines (just like back in 2009), Kirara chapters will be about seniors at the JWU while Kirara Carat chapters will follow juniors’ last year in high school (so timeline-wise we get to know what happened after March 1, 2010). FAQ has been updated accordingly.

First chapters come out on April 9 and 28, let’s hope raws come out in a timely fashion too.

Update: There appears to be some confusion about there being *two* series: the “university” one and the “high school” one.
Nothing in the text of the announcement suggests that. Yes, the chapters will be published in two magazines (under the same name “K-ON!”), but when the time comes to publish the tankoubon, chapters from both magazines will go into the same volume (in chronological order of their magazine release). That’s how they did it in volumes 2 and 3.
