Volume 1 Chapter 0 (volume-only prologue)

Volume 1 begins…

So, yeah, I decided to do volume 1 too.

It’s been translated before by two other groups (one of which has since dropped the series and the other appears to be defunct). To my knowledge, neither of them claimed high quality (and judging by the comments I’ve seen, neither is regarded as such). Thus, I don’t see the need for me to expose their mistakes. If anyone cares to compare my version with theirs and has questions about specific differences, feel free to ask in the comments.

Volume 2 (Complete)

This is the complete volume 2, which includes previously released chapters 1-12 and 15 0-11, 13 and 14 (with a few revisions), newly translated chapter 13 12, new omake pages (that have never been translated before) and covers.

v2 (apparently the front and back cover omake pages were in the wrong order, also tweaked levels of some of the pages to get better detail):

Naturally, this release post would not be complete without mentioning FoOlRulez, the one and only home of the original recipe Fried Oysters. If only those folks did a better job, I would not have taken on the re-translation of volume 2. I wish them well (and for the sake of their leader’s sanity I wish that no other translator ever cares about the series they work on more than they do themselves).

Update: I saw Kirara 2008-04 raw today and realized that my chapter numbering for volume 2 is messed up: I followed F-rulez’ numbering and what they call chapter 1 is actually a volume-only prologue chapter (what came out in Kirara 2008-04 was actually the last regular chapter of volume 1). Long story short: to be consistent with other volumes, chapters 1-15 are now chapters 0-14, I updated the blog, renamed the files and re-uploaded the volume 2 release.

Volume 2 Chapter 11 (K2008-12)

“Was she really worried about me?”

There’s also a v2 for chapter 1 of volume 3, I made a pretty dumb mistake on page 7 (Thanks, Anonymous!).

Only one chapter left to do before volume 2 is complete.

Meanwhile, by chapter 12 the other group’s translation has finally reached the quality of a decent speed-scan, i.e. it roughly conveys the meaning of the original with no major mistranslations and instead of erasing the SFX they don’t know how to translate, they just left them as is, untranslated. (cue righteous indignation)

Volume 4 Chapter 2 (K2009-11)

Shakespeare. Talk about epic

Next chapter comes out in Japan on November 9. The translation comes out when it’s ready to come out. Everybody ought to know that by now…

Update: in case you’re curious, these are the original lines from “Romeo and Juliet” that the lines in the chapter are based on:

Page 5, panel 5 – Act 2, Scene 2, Juliet: “Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow.”
Page 7, panel 1 – Act 1, Scene 5, Romeo: “O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!”
Page 7, panel 3 – Act 2, Scene 2, Juliet: “What’s in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet;”
Page 7, panel 5 – Act 2, Scene 2, Juliet: “O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?”
Page 7, panel 6 – Act 3, Scene 5, Romeo: “Ah, dear Juliet, Why art thou yet so fair?”

I thought about putting these into TL notes at first, but then decided not to clutter up the chapter with too many notes.

Volume 2 Chapter 10 (C2008-12)

“L..Let’s try it one more time!”

So Kirara 2009-11 is out today and so is the new chapter.

More importantly, I already have the raws for it, so stay tuned!

Even more importantly, on the 1st page of the new chapter it says that volume 3 comes on sale in December. Now what does that tell us? First of all, it means that vol.3 is probably not the last (there’s only 2 more chapters left till December and we already know that a chapter will be coming out in Carat in January). Second of all, the “real-time” pace manga’s been keeping in vol.3 so far means that the chapter about their graduation will probably come out in April and there’s not enough chapters from December to April to fill a volume, so either the pace will slow down and we’ll get another ~15 chapters from December till their graduation, or the manga won’t end with their graduation. Of course, all of this is just my speculation…
